The work of ten artists will be shown at four locations
The work of ten Outside In artists is set to be showcased in the touring exhibition Hard Wired later this year.
Run in partnership with Chrysalis Arts Development, the exhibition forms part of the Art Unpacked programme, a series of touring art exhibitions which brings the very best of contemporary art to a network of libraries and small venues across North Yorkshire, East Riding and Lancashire.
Asked why the exhibition appealed, Outside In artist and ambassador Drew Fox said it was the opportunity to exhibit and share work and ideas relating to ‘creating art as a way of overcoming trauma and related ill-health’.
He described his work as being ‘a response to friends and family asking me what it was like to experience my own death’.
The glass plate collodion images (featured) which will be on show were made by running a nine volt electrical battery charge across the still wet emulsion. “This is how I imagined the electricity from the defibrillators to have traveled through my body before jumpstarting my heart back into life and drawing my soul suddenly back into my body.”
Art Unpacked project manager Sara Trentham-Black said: “Working with Outside In is an exciting new partnership for Chrysalis Arts, enabling us to show work by a diverse range of artists who are new to the Art Unpacked programme. We think that audiences in Bridlington, Catterick, Whitby and Chorley libraries will be intrigued by the thought provoking responses to the theme of technology and how it impacts on all our lives.”
